The Election Commission has announced a five-phase roadmap for the Union Parishad elections. The first phase of voting will be held on January 21, 2027.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah announced the roadmap on Monday (October 12) after the Election Commission’s 13th meeting.
According to the roadmap, the second phase will be held on February 4, the third on April 29, the fourth on May 13 and the fifth and final phase on May 27. Elections to approximately 4,300 Union Parishads are expected to be completed by May 27.
The first phase was scheduled for January 21 because the final prayer of the Bishwa Ijtema will be held on January 17. The date was fixed after considering a request from law enforcement agencies.
Voting will begin simultaneously across all districts, with priority given to Union Parishads in upazila headquarters and those where elections are already overdue.
