Historic Jhilmil Cinema Hall Destroyed in Gauripur Fire
The historic Jhilmil Cinema Hall and several nearby shops were destroyed in a fire in Gauripur, Mymensingh.
The fire broke out at around 2:15 am on Tuesday (October 6). Officials believe it may have started in an LPG cylinder warehouse next to the cinema hall.
Four Fire Service units quickly reached the scene and brought the fire under control. The Fire Service could not immediately confirm the total amount of damage.
Local residents said Jhilmil Cinema Hall was an important part of the historic Gauripur Rajbari and had once served as a traditional theatre. They described the destruction of the century-old cultural landmark as a painful and irreplaceable loss to the area’s history and heritage.
