Bijoya Dashami Today, Durga Puja to End With Idol Immersion
Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, will conclude in Bangladesh and elsewhere on Wednesday (October 21) with the immersion of Goddess Durga’s idols on Bijoya Dashami.
After blessing her devotees during the six-day festival, Goddess Durga will symbolically return to her husband’s home on Mount Kailash. The celebrations, religious rituals, beating of drums and colourful decorations will come to an end as a farewell atmosphere fills puja mandaps across the country.
In Dhaka, an idol immersion procession will begin at the Dhakeshwari National Temple, travel through different streets of the capital and end at Sadarghat. Devotees will then bid farewell to Goddess Durga by immersing the idols at designated locations.
Considering public safety, the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad has instructed organisers to complete all idol immersions before sunset.
This year’s Durga Puja began with Maha Shashthi on October 16. Following six days of religious rituals and celebrations, the festival will formally conclude with the immersion ceremonies on Bijoya Dashami.
