The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has made it mandatory for motorcycles to display registration plates at the front. Until now, motorcycles were required to carry digital number plates only at the rear.
Motorcycle owners must install manual front number plates at their own expense by November 15. Legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply within the deadline, according to an urgent public notice issued by the BRTA on Friday (October 16).
The front plate must be made of stainless steel or aluminium, with black Bangla letters and numbers on a white background. Decorative elements and additional designs are prohibited.
For scooters, the plate must measure 200 millimetres by 100 millimetres. For other motorcycles, it must measure 285 millimetres by 50 millimetres. In both cases, the letters and numbers must be at least 20 millimetres high.
The BRTA said the new requirement is intended to strengthen traffic management and road surveillance.
