Death Toll in Cox’s Bazar Tuptup Resort Fire Rises to 10
Ten bodies have been recovered following a devastating fire at Tuptup Resto and Resort in the Inani area of Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. Several others were injured and are receiving hospital treatment.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters confirmed the updated death toll on Saturday afternoon (October 17).
The Fire Service received information about the fire at 7:25 am and dispatched two units from Ukhiya Fire Station. Firefighters arrived at around 8:00 am and brought the blaze completely under control by 11:00 am.
The three-storey wooden resort was rapidly reduced to ashes. Rescue workers recovered the bodies after the fire was extinguished.
Resort manager Md Suman said they suspected that an electrical short circuit caused the fire. He said the flames spread throughout the resort after air-conditioning units and gas cylinders exploded. However, authorities have not yet officially confirmed the cause.
A five-member investigation committee, led by Cox’s Bazar’s additional district magistrate, has been formed. The committee will investigate the cause of the fire, the deaths and the resort’s safety arrangements.
