Delhi Police detained at least 12 journalists on Sunday while they were covering the second day of protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi.
The detained journalists reportedly included staff members from leading newspapers such as Hindustan, The Indian Express and The Hindu.
Hindustan journalist Ashish Singh said police detained him at around 2:30 pm while he was covering the protest near RK Ashram Marg. He said officers pushed and injured him despite his press ID being clearly visible.
An unnamed photographer also said he was detained while taking pictures of protesters being taken into custody. A Delhi Police spokesperson declined to comment on the detentions.
