World Post Day Observed Today
World Post Day is being observed today, October 9, in Bangladesh and around the world. This year’s theme is “One Postal Network, Endless Possibilities.”
To mark the occasion, the Bangladesh Post Office will observe Postal Service Week from October 9 to 15. The programmes will include letter-writing festivals, stamp exhibitions and postal service fairs at several universities.
Bangladesh is also working to modernize its traditional postal system through technology-based delivery, logistics and e-commerce services. New initiatives include digital parcel tracking, collection and delivery services, fulfilment centres, transportation of agricultural products and seasonal fruits, and franchise-based post offices.
World Post Day marks the founding of the Universal Postal Union in Bern, Switzerland, on October 9, 1874. The day has been observed worldwide since 1970.
