World Food Day Observed Today
World Food Day is being observed today, Friday (October 16), with the theme “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.”
The day is observed every year to raise global awareness about hunger, malnutrition and food security. It also highlights the importance of ensuring access to safe and nutritious food for everyone and developing sustainable agriculture and food production systems.
Bangladesh is marking the occasion with various programmes, as are many other countries around the world.
World Food Day commemorates the establishment of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization on October 16, 1945. The proposal to observe the day was introduced at an FAO conference in 1979 by former Hungarian agriculture and food minister Pál Romány.
