Railway Moves to Block Website Accused of Using Bots to Resell Tickets
Bangladesh Railway has taken a strong position against an unauthorized website accused of using automated bots to block large numbers of train tickets and resell them at higher prices.
Authorities have started taking steps to block the website in Bangladesh, arrest those involved and strengthen the security of the railway’s online ticketing system.
Bangladesh Railway Director of Public Relations Anisur Rahman shared the information in a press release issued on Thursday (October 8).
According to the statement, an illegal website named “bookmyrailbd.com” has allegedly been using automated bots to block large numbers of tickets from the railway’s e-ticketing system. The tickets are then reportedly sold on the black market at inflated prices.
Bangladesh Railway said the cybercrime is preventing ordinary passengersfrom buying tickets at official prices and damaging the government’s image.
To protect passengers, the railway has taken three steps. It has instructed its ticketing partner, Shohoz Limited, to immediately strengthen the security of the e-ticketing system and introduce technical measures to stop automated bots.
