Appointments of Sonali, Janata and Rupali Bank MDs Cancelled
The Finance Ministry has cancelled the remaining terms of the contractual appointments of the managing directors and chief executive officers of three state-owned banks—Sonali Bank, Janata Bank and Rupali Bank.
The officials are Sonali Bank MD and CEO Shawkat Ali Khan, Janata Bank MD and CEO Mujibur Rahman, and Rupali Bank MD and CEO Kazi Wahidul Islam.
The ministry issued three separate orders in this regard on Monday (October 19). Its Financial Institutions Division instructed the boards of directors of the three banks to take the necessary action in accordance with the relevant laws and contractual terms.
Shawkat Ali Khan joined Sonali Bank as managing director on October 30, 2024, for a three-year term. Kazi Md Wahidul Islam was also appointed managing director of Rupali Bank for three years, while Mujibur Rahman had been serving as the managing director and chief executive officer of Janata Bank.
Following the cancellation of their remaining contractual terms, the respective boards will complete the required procedures and decide on the next steps.
