A total of 100 flights from Dhaka to Riyadh and Dammam have been cancelled or suspended following attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia. The disruption has affected 15,393 passengers, with migrant workers whose visas are close to expiring facing the greatest difficulties.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), the flights were cancelled or suspended between Saturday (October 10) and Wednesday evening (October 14). Of them, 41 were direct flights and 59 were transit flights.
The affected direct flights were operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines, Saudia and Riyadh Air. Transit services operated by IndiGo, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Flydubai, SalamAir and EgyptAir were also affected.
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh remains closed, while flight operations at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam have also been disrupted.
The disruptions followed a missile attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on October 10. Thirteen people, including two Bangladeshis, were killed in the attack.
