Second Uranium Fuel Shipment Reaches Rooppur Under Tight Security

The second shipment of uranium fuel imported from Russia for Unit 2 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has reached the project site in Ishwardi, Pabna.

The convoy carrying the uranium entered the power plant at around 10:05 am on Wednesday (October 21).

Earlier, the convoy departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for Rooppur at around 5:00 am under tight security. Members of the Bangladesh Army, police, Special Response Battalion and various intelligence agencies were deployed to protect the convoy. Security personnel were also stationed at important points along the route from Dhaka to Ishwardi.

The aircraft carrying the fuel shipment arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday night. Officials from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority later received the consignment.
