Former Army Officers Gulshan Ara and Debashish Sent to Jail After Remand

A Dhaka court has sent retired Lieutenant Colonel Debashish Kumar Barua and retired Lieutenant Gulshan Ara to jail after the completion of their four-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan issued the order on Friday (October 16) in a case filed with Pallabi Police Station under sedition, anti-terrorism and cyber security laws.

Detective Branch police arrested the two former army officers from separate areas of Dhaka on the night of October 11. They were produced before a court the following day, when investigators requested seven days of remand. The court granted four days.

After the remand ended, the investigating officer produced them before the court and requested that they be detained in jail. Their lawyers applied for bail, while the prosecution opposed the applications.

Following the hearing, the court rejected their bail petitions and ordered that they be sent to jail.
