E-Rickshaw Registration to Begin Monday in 13 City Corporations

THT Report • November 1, 2026
Registration of battery-powered rickshaws, or e-rickshaws, will officially begin on Monday, November 2, across the country’s 13 city corporations as part of efforts to regulate the vehicles.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam said rickshaws currently operating on the roads would not be stopped immediately. However, he also said no e-rickshaw would be allowed to operate without registration.
He outlined the government’s new policy while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Sunday, November 1.
The minister said the one-time registration fee for a two-passenger e-rickshaw would be Tk 8,000, with an annual renewal fee of Tk 4,000. For a four-passenger e-rickshaw, the registration fee would be Tk 10,000, with an annual renewal fee of Tk 5,000.
Designated operating zones, routes and vehicle colours will be finalised to regulate e-rickshaw movement.
A maximum of five e-rickshaws may be registered against a single national identity card across one or more city corporations.
