Company-Based Bus Services Begin on Six Routes in Dhaka

THT Report • November 1, 2026
Bus services under designated companies have begun on six routes in Dhaka as part of the bus route rationalisation programme, aimed at bringing order to public transport and reducing traffic congestion.
Member of Parliament Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, chief coordinator of the Transport Owners and Workers Unity Council, inaugurated the services on Manik Mia Avenue on Sunday, November 1.
Initially, six companies will operate buses on the six routes. Each route will be managed by a designated company, replacing the practice of several companies competing on the same route. The aim is to reduce aggressive competition for passengers.
Under the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority’s (DTCA) plan, 816 buses are scheduled to operate on the six routes in the initial phase. These include 796 non-air-conditioned buses and 20 air-conditioned buses.
The routes are Shibbari in Gazipur to Azimpur; Mirpur Zoo to Keraniganj; Ghatarchar to Demra; Ghatarchar to Kanchpur; Ghatarchar to Dhour; and Tongi to Azimpur.
There are also plans to use different bus colours for each route. Officials expect this to help passengers easily identify the buses serving their intended routes.
