Autorickshaw Driver Suman Raped and Strangled Tazmin: Police

Police say they have solved the murder of Jannatul Tazmin, a seventh-grade student in Cumilla. According to investigators, CNG-powered autorickshaw driver Suman raped and strangled her.

Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Barua shared the details at a press conference on Saturday morning (October 10).

Police said Tazmin hired Suman’s autorickshaw at around 12:30 am on Wednesday (October 7) to travel to Cumilla Racecourse. Instead of taking her toward the city, Suman allegedly drove her to an isolated road in the Jagatpur area of Lalmai.

During questioning, Suman confessed to raping Tazmin and killing her by wrapping a towel around her neck, police said. He allegedly took her iPhone, hid it in a paddy field and fled to Chattogram.

Police arrested Suman from his brother’s home in Chattogram on Friday (October 9).

Tazmin was the daughter of Abdul Alim from Jashore. She lived with her family in Cumilla because of her father’s job.
