26 Sent to Jail Over Alleged Violence During Mirpur Worker Protests

THT Report • November 2, 2026
Twenty-six people have been sent to jail in three separate cases involving allegations of attacking police, vandalising a traffic police box, detonating crude bombs and setting a government vehicle on fire during garment workers’ protests in Dhaka’s Mirpur area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Ariful Islam and Kalam Uddin issued the orders after hearings in their respective courts on Monday afternoon, November 2.
Magistrate Kalam Uddin ordered 13 people to be sent to jail in a case filed at Pallabi Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. He also ordered seven others to be sent to jail in another case filed at the same police station under the Explosive Substances Act and various sections of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Ariful Islam ordered six people to be sent to jail in a case filed at Mirpur Model Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The applications seeking their continued detention stated that preliminary investigations had found information linking the arrested individuals to the incidents. Investigators were checking information obtained from them and working to identify and arrest other suspects.
The applications also argued that the accused could flee or obstruct the investigations if released on bail, and that keeping them in custody was necessary for the investigations.
